The thrilling race took place on Waitangi Day, February 6th, at the picturesque Tauherenikau racecourse. The Wairarapa Breeders’ Cup, sponsored by Clubs New Zealand, was claimed by Reputation, a talented five-year-old bay mare trained by P. Gerard of Matamata. Grace QSM, Mrs. S. Grace, J.R. & L.D. Griffith, G. Jones, J.E. & S.J. McKenzie, and B.C. & T.D. White.
A Race Steeped in Tradition
Established in 1867, the Wairarapa Cup carries a proud and prestigious legacy. Its original silver trophy was first awarded 157 years ago, making it one of New Zealand’s most historic racing prizes. To explore more about the rich heritage of the Wairarapa Racing Club, visit Tauherenikau’s history.
